2010 - Congratulations to Dacorum Horizons
The Dacorum Horizons learning shop opened at 160 Marlowes in November
2009. Over 2000 people have visited the shop for information and
747 learners attended sessions, with around 35% of those learners
moving into further learning or employment.
In evaluation sessions, 100% of learners said they "most certainly"
would recommend Dacorum Horizons to others. Evaluators said that
the project represented "good value for money" and praised
the "considerable commitment" of the staff and volunteers.
Community Action Dacorum has been an active partner in Dacorum Horizons,
along with Dacorum Borough Council, Volunteer Centre Dacorum and
West Herts College.
I am delighted to be involved with the Dacorum Horizon project which
is situated in the former Post Office premises in Marlowes, Hemel
Hempstead.
It
is open 5 days per week, Monday to Friday 10.00 am – 4.00
pm, providing local adult learners with taster sessions - from Using
the Internet, to How to learn German, which can lead to signposting
to other training provision in the area. We also provide a town
centre base for the Dacorum First Credit Union.
Our role is to employ the Project Co-ordinator, hold the licence
on the premises and provide the financial management. We are delighted
to be working with the many partners including West Herts College,
Dacorum Borough Council, Volunteer Centre Dacorum and others, to
provide this positive example of joined up working which is making
a practical difference to the lives of many who walk through the
door.
