MIGRATION IMPACT
FUND IN HERTFORDSHIRE - SUMMARY
November 2009
Hertfordshire County Council has led a successful
partnership application to the Migration Impact Fund. The partners
in the application are:
• Broxbourne Borough Council
• Broxbourne District CAB
• Community Action Dacorum
• CVS East Herts Broxbourne
• Dacorum Borough Council
• East Herts District Council
• Hertford Regional College
• Hertfordshire County Council
• Hertfordshire Police
• MENTER (Minority Ethnic Forum Eastern Region)
• North Herts District Council
• Watford Council
• Welwyn Hatfield District Council
A range of initiatives have come together in the one application
to provide a co-ordinated and joined up approach to delivery of
the Migration Impact Fund in Hertfordshire. The principle behind
each of these is to support community cohesion and to reduce the
pressures on public services. Examples of activities which will
be commencing in the near future include:
• Improve Debriefing for professional staff working with minor
refugees
• ESOL Training (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
• IAG Sessions (Information Advice and Guidance)
• Welcome Packs at a District level
• Providing support to make CAB services more accessible
• Assist the formation of new community groups
• Training in Know Your Public Services
Community Action Dacorum is leading on the delivery of training
to improve awareness on the delivery of public services. To know
how these services are delivered improves the sense of being part
of the local community and so improves quality of life. We will
design a training course programme, engage public service officers
as guest speakers, arrange venues in the Dacorum / East Herts area,
publicise courses, recruit and provide ongoing support to 30 learners.
There will be close co-operation with all other strands of the overall
project and in particular with the formation of new community groups
and the provision of CAB advice.
