Raising the Ceiling
Works with not for profit organisations in Hertfordshire to help
them develop greater financial security, communications skills,
and to address other issues related to their sustainability. It
does this through providing training, one-to-one support and print
information.
The service involves:
- Training – from 90-minute workshops to
full day sessions on funding, marketing and other organisational
and business skills. Availability of training depends on demand
and location in Hertfordshire as well as funding. Training commissions
accepted from other counties in the East of England.
- One-to-one consultations – face to face
and arms length – on developmental issues around the core
themes of funding and finance (including trading), marketing,
and sustainability. Level of support may depend on the priorities
of organisations funding the project.
- Two monthly e-mail newsletters – Raiser
(on the core themes) and Working Well (on individual and organisational
health). Available free to all.
The need it addresses:
- Skills development in not-for- profit organisations
– helping them to help themselves – and connecting
them to others who have relevant experiences to share. Pursuing
sustainable working practices that ensure organisations provide
effective and affordable services as long as they are needed.
Numbers and statistics / success stories:
- 250 organisations receiving the projects free monthly newsletters,
50 organisations supported in the first two years of the project.
Funding advice has helped organisations across Hertfordshire raise
many £000s.
Where and how it is accessible:
- Meetings and training possible in any parts of the county. Commissioned
training can take place in suitable locations across the Eastern
Region. E-mail newsletters sent free to any addresses in the UK
